Some notes before I start -
Office: Philips Innovation Campus, Bangalore
Home: Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore
Approx Distance: 25 kms
I presume, above details would have given you a rough idea of my problem.
Earlier Philips transport was available and it was simple for me to get into tempo traveler (TT) at 8AM and have good nap before I reach office at 9. Was starting at 6PM in the evening and reaching home by 7:30PM. We enjoyed having entertaining and hot discussions with the route mates and we had some change of routes to optimize the time. One fine day, the management decided to shift to BMTC Volvo buses to reduce cost and simplify their process. But this actually had made my travel difficult. The buses were pretty early in the morning and had to go long way for the bus stop. Also the time of travel had increased.
So I decided to take my car and plan my own ride. I had to drive all the way alone and need to take the pain of driving through the crowded and bad Bangalore roads. My monthly expenditure had also gone up by more than 300%. Was looking for car pooling options.
Finally the day arrived. Luckily, I was able to get 3 of my old TT route mates to switch from Volvo bus to car pool who were also looking for alternatives. We came up with a strategy and plan to ensure everyone was convinced.
Arvind , Madhu and Arpita are those three carpool mates. This is a new beginning which will help us save time, fuel, reduce stress and lot more.
Strategy -
We had two efficient Swift Dzire diesel cars and one petrol SX4. Also Arpita did not know driving. So we decided to assume that month has 21 working days and each car and driver has to bring the car 7 times in a month. If there were more than 21 days, one of us will drive an additional time in that month and this will be adjusted over the next month or another person will drive extra in the consecutive month.
Based on the calculation, we decided that Arpita will pay 400 each for diesel car owners and 800 for the petrol car, so it was Rs 1600 for her per month.
For a diesel car owner, it will be ideally -
4 Rs per Km* X 60 Kms per day X 7 days = 1680 - 400 = Rs 1280
Diesel car mileage 15Kpl + wear and tear
For a petrol car owner, it will be ideally -
7 Rs per Km* X 60 Kms per day X 7 days = 2940 - 800 = Rs 2140
Petrol car mileage 11Kpl + wear and tear
